We Love the Old Mine Cut Diamond!
Antique diamonds are incredible for their sparkle, pastel rainbow flashes and for the fact that they were uniquely cut by hand hundreds of years ago!
Developed in18th centuryEurope, old mine cushion cuts were not round but had a slightly curved edge which formed a soft square. They were made with a variety of facet patterns but always with a small table, high crown, and larger culet (the open "hole," the heart of the stone you see down at the bottom.)
This large and white old mine cushion cut diamond is an incredible example of the old style. It has an estimated weight of 1.83ct and measures 7.12 x 7.39 x 4.96mm. The clarity is VS1 (very clean) and it is an I color by GIA standards. Old diamonds this white are difficult to find, as many are warmer in tone due to the regions they were mined. There is some faint blue fluorescenceto the stone which only enhancesits brightness and does not make the diamond appear milky.
The ring itself is vintage and may have been reworked at some time. It is 14k yellow gold with a domed 2.1mm round base shank and slightly tapered (3.3-2.1mm sides) with cathedral shoulders. The head of the setting has an 18k white gold eight-prong setting on an 18k yellow gold base.
With an appraisal value of $17,500, this ring is a worthwhile addition to any fine jewelry collection, or to be used as an engagement ring.
It is currently a size 9 and can be resizedby us or by your local jeweler. Once the ring is resized, however, it is non-refundable.
Making a Difference:
Help fight climate change with this purchase! Trees are like the lungs of the planet...our "natural air purifiers." They breathe in carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen. Additionally, they provide habitat for birds and other wildlife and play a vital role in our natural water cycle. Forests help regulate the water in the air through a process called transpiration. They absorb thousands of gallons of water into their roots. Excess water is then released through the leaves back into the air. For every purchase made, I donate one planted tree through Plant-It 2020. Small changes by individuals can make a difference in the fight against climate change.
